Switching up your style
How many times have you picked up a piece of clothing or just walked past entire sections of a store, thinking “that is so not my style!”? I don’t know about you guys, but I’m so guilty of this.
My personal style is generally feminine and flirty, so I rarely stray away from my tried-and-true chiffon pieces or A-line dresses. Even the edgier pieces that I have in my wardrobe, I style them in a way to make them fit into my girly uniform.
So when Wil of Only1 “O” Photography came to me in the beginning of September with a photo shoot theme that was dark, street, and edgy, I looked at CJ and almost gave up before I even started. Dark? Edgy? ME?!
I have to give most of the styling credit to my better half for this one. He took pieces that I already had in my wardrobe, and put them together in ways that I would never have pictured myself. (He even let me borrow his Nike soccer socks, which was an awesome urban twist to the thigh-high socks).
But this post is more than “thinking outside the box” and the like — which we’ve talked about a number of times. Its about stepping outside of your comfort zone. How we define our own personal style is important, and is a look that we can feel confident rocking everyday. But every now and then, you shouldn’t be afraid to try something new.
Normally a black and grey person? Play around with a bit of colour. Do you swear by jeans and a t-shirt? Spice it up with a dress. Are you like me, and love all things bubblegum girly? Try out a sexier or urban look. You might be pleasantly surprised — sometimes change is good!

Be sure to check out Wil’s stellar work all over the web. From his vision, to the execution (I’m no model, but the direction he gives makes you feel like you’re working the camera like a pro!), to the editing, he’s one of the most talented photographers I’ve personally had the chance to work with.

I think I already might’ve mentioned this on IG but I love this look on you! I think switching up the socks was a great and simple way to change things up. I’m also guilty of sticking to what I feel comfortable in, so I’m always looking to other bloggers and magazines for inspiration. At the same time though, I think it’s good to have our preferences 🙂

Definitely! I don’t think there’s anything wrong with having a style or even go-to outfit that you can fall back on. It’s what you feel comfortable in, and something that you know works for you. But thank you, it means a lot! Especially because this look was totally on the opposite end of the spectrum of my comfort zone.

You’re such a Le Chateau fan! it’s great to see these pieces come together 🙂

I do indeed! Plus its a Canadian-based company and a lot of the pieces are made in Canada too, so double win!

If you stare at these pictures long enough, you might notice that she is wearing some nice clothes.
Honestly, though, as nice as the clothes and the picture are (and they are!), the model here is utterly astounding! She outshines everything else.
Thank you very much for sharing your image with us!
Love, humbly, Laszlo
