make a statement: necklines and bold necklaces
We can’t deny the importance of accessorizing. Not only does it complete your look, but the type of accessory you choose also allows you to showcase your personality. I’m a self-proclaimed accessory junkie, but I think that statement necklaces are the best way for you to elevate your outfit. Statement necklaces are bold, large pieces that are as much part of your outfit as the dress or blouse you’re wearing. However, with the variety of styles and colours to choose from, plus the additional task of pairing it with the proper neckline, accessorizing can get quite overwhelming!
So, here’s a breakdown of the necklaces that work best with different necklines.
1. Ballerina neckline: Opt for a longer necklace that dips past the neckline. Layers work really well here, as a ballerina neckline is quite low cut and the layers add a bit more substance.
2. Strapless: This is definitely my favourite neckline to work with! Since your dΓ©colletage is bare, you can really experiment with really bold colours and larger stones. A necklace that falls right under your collar bones works best.
3. Scoop: Pick a necklace that doesn’t dip below the neckline. If you’re not one to really wear accessories, the scoop neckline works best with simpler necklaces. A single strand of pearls or a simple charm works, or a statement necklace that’s not as over-the-top.
4. Button down: Choose a necklace that hugs the neck as closely as possible. A large piece that peeks out from under the collar really dresses up the more conservative cut.
5. V-neck: Opt for a necklace that doesn’t go past the neckline, and has a v-shape itself. V-necks are really flattering on all chest sizes, and the v-shaped necklace emphasizes the shape.
6. Turtleneck: These are also really fun to accessorize! Since turtlenecks are 100% coverage, opt for a really bold statement necklace to dress up all that material.
Although I haven’t covered all necklines, I think some styles work better with earrings rather than necklaces. For example, cowl necks and halter tops are really busy around the neckline, so wearing large earrings instead would give you a cleaner look. Tops with a lot of embellishment around the neckline, such as elaborate lace or beading, also work better with large earrings rather than a statement necklace.
Here’s a little neckline cheat-sheet that can help you pick a necklace and add those finishing touches!
Did you find my neckline guideline useful? Agree or disagree? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
