let’s talk socks

One of the most overlooked parts of the men’s wardrobe are his socks. Now you can argue that this only makes sense, as socks are the least visible piece of clothing in an outfit. But socks aren’t your enemy gents. Rather, think of them as your new best friend waiting to happen.
While there will always be vacancy for greys and blacks, its time to fill that drawer with some colour. Think bright, outrageous, even downright absurd. A mean sock game can add that extra bit of detail that brings a look full circle. When it comes to socks, I’d like to think there are two ways to go about it: to complement or to contrast. Here are some examples of how I incorporated socks into my formal and casual wear.

095Unified in red, this sock choice aims to make a statement. Consider this look if you are attending a wedding or another social event.
096Still unified in red, these socks are much more subtle. Consider going with this look if it is for a professional environment.

099With this particular outfit being all-black, opting for bright socks allowed me to add a bit of flair. For more plain outfits, don’t be afraid to be more bold with your sock choices.

101In a lot of cases, a complementary pair of socks works best. Though they are not as much of a statement, this look is smart. Knowing how to match equals style points.
102Sock considerations don’t just stop at shoes or dress shoes. If you have a cool pair of boots that come high on the ankle, try tucking your pants into your socks to highlight your footwear, as well as giving your pants a tapered look.
103There you have it – my take on the importance of socks. When in doubt, keep it simple; think accent colours and how they can unify your look. And please, leave the white socks for the gym.
