What people wore to Ottawa Fashion Week SS 2014
So Ottawa Fashion Week SS14 was a few weeks ago (okay, maybe it was slightly more than a few) and we’ve finally gotten the chance to work on the photos that we took over the three-day event. Although we’ve attended OFW before, it was our first time attending as media to watch the models strut their stuff on the catwalk in premium seats.
On top of how fun it always is to connect with new and old friends, and it was even more awesome to be able to participate in Ottawa’s quickly-evolving fashion scene. All the designers did a spectacular job, but we were particularly floored by Brit Wacher, Lucian Matis, Beaucoup Fashion House, Copius Couture, Helmer, and Y!D.N.A. (who always knows how to put on a show!). You can see our fave looks on our Facebook page.
As much as we loved seeing the show unfold on the runway, we also have a huge appreciation for personal style and really enjoyed seeing what people were actually wearing. There were so many fashionable people, and while we couldn’t snap everyone, here are some of the people that really caught our eye.
Naomi of Fashion Is my Religion
We loved Naomi’s edgy yet playful look, with her bright yellow pants (which she referred to as her “Kill Bill” pants) and black details. Naomi is a petite girl, but the vertical black stripe made her legs go on for days, and her platform booties made her look even taller. Now that’s some smart styling!
Jean-Luc
This season is all about layering up with heavier fabrics like wool and tweed, and using richer hues. So we loved how his outfit’s tweed textures, and neutral colour palette accented with olive green and orange were perfect for fall.
Amanda, designer of Featherband and her beau
This adorable couple was sitting behind us during one of the shows, and they immediately caught our eye. With her sequinned dress and studded booties, Amanda’s outfit was a fabulous example of how textures and details can elevate an all-black outfit. Her beau’s outfit was modern and gentleman-esque, and we loved the overall clean and tailored look.
Unfortunately we didn’t get this woman’s name, but this is another example of how details can really make an outfit. Although she is wearing all black, this is far from plain. Look at all the lovely details on her knit sweater, the leather accents on her pants, and her strappy black heels.
Elise of Fierce Fashionator
Oh that infamous Zara skort makes another fabulous appearance! While her moto jacket and pops of neon give her outfit an overall edgy look, we love how the skort adds a touch of femininity.
Dimitrios of DMG
As you can already tell, this gent is not short of any confidence or swagger. CJ had the chance to meet him backstage while he was getting ready to walk for Beaucoup Fashion House, as Dimitrios represents them at his talent agency. Rocking an oversized chain and an urbanized take on the tunic by Beaucoup, here’s a guy that knows how to mix street with high fashion.
Sam; student at University of Ottawa
Everytime we run into this stylish gentleman, he’s wearing the most amazing vintage pieces. His hat, mens leather clutch, and structured blazer (even in maroon, the colour of the season!) are all vintage finds – we’re secretly so jealous of his luck. Not to mention his ability to tie this entire look together!
Lolitta Dandoy ofΒ Fashion is Everywhere
Lolita’s minimalistic tunic and leather tights created a blank canvas for all the wonderful details in her outfit. Her amber statement necklace and jewel that adorned her forehead were the stars of her outfit. But those shoesβ¦ oh those shoes! They were a piece of art in itself, with nails replacing the actual heel.
Thank you to all those involved with OFW for putting on such a luxurious show. This was our second time attending and were very impressed with how much this event is growing in strides. We can’t wait to see what the OFW team has in store for February’s edition!
