Bash Noir: What to Wear to an all-black affair
Next Saturday we’ll be spending our evening stepping into a film noir, at Ottawa’s most anticipated event of the summer — Bash Noir. This affair will be taking place at the new horticulture building at Landsowne Park, and will surely be a night to remember.
The theme of Bash Noir is femme fatale, inspired by classic fifties films. So, what does one wear to an upscale, noir-inspired event? Sleek, all black outfits with pops of red are of course highly encouraged.
For the ladies, you can always opt for a classic, sexy LBD — you can’t go wrong with one of these! Finish off your look with a rouge lip and strappy pumps, and you’re set for a noir night. If you’re feeling more adventurous, try a full femme fatale look to feel like you’ve stepped out of a black-and-white movie. This means pulling out all the stops for a fifties bombshell look — luscious curls with a side part or short pin curls, a cat eye and deep red lipstick. Get inspired by some vintage movie starts, like Elizabeth Taylor as Cleopatra, or Ava Gardner from The Killers.
Femme fatales are all about old Hollywood glamour and seductiveness. Try out whatever makes you feel sexy, like a black strapless piece, or satin backless dress. When it comes to accessories and details, [faux] fur pieces, long satin gloves, and lace are must haves. As for jewelry — lots of bling!
For the gentlemen, you can opt for a tailored black suit. For a classic GQ look, pair it with a crisp white collared shirt and black bow tie. For those gents that are feeling a little more neo-noir, draw some inspiration from 1950s films and detective outfits.
Some ideas for those a bit lost? Black slacks paired with a black collared shirt, and suspenders. Or a full black suit with subtle grey pinstripes or windowpane detailing, paired with a vest and fedora. You can modernize your outfit with slim-fit cuts and a coiffed hairstyle.
Not only will this surely be the most enticing affair of the season, but proceeds of Bash Noir ticket sales will go towards funding and raising awareness for The Snowsuit Fund. Tickets are almost sold out, so make sure you don’t miss out on the event of the summer!
