home for the holidays

We’ve been back in the Toronto area with our families for the holidays and we can’t say enough how good it feels to be home. Lots of cheer was spread on Christmas and bringing in the new year with each other and our close friends made for a memorable time. We really hope everyone is enjoying their holiday season!

Since we packed light for our short stay at home, we went to the local mall to pick up a couple items to complete our outfits. Although we won’t give actual numbers, Katherine ended up spending (literally!) ten times less than CJ. This kind of plays into our ongoing debate as to how men usually have to spend a pretty penny on their outfits in order to be well-dressed, while women have many more affordable options. We’re pretty sure you can guess who’s on either side.

From him | An outerwear vest has been on my wish list for quite sometime, so it was a great feeling to finally find one that could be worn on milder days, when you can get away with not wearing a coat. Pairing the vest with a chunky sweater allows me to give my winter parka a rest, and adopt a more ‘urban’ look. My favorite piece in this outfit are the Oliberté Gando boots, from Max’s Footwear Boutique and Cobbler outside of Westboro. Oliberté is a fully-integrated, African footwear brand. What makes the Gandos so unique is that as they are worn in, the brown leather will redden over time, giving them a more saturated hue.

From her | One of my favorite accessories for this season is my vintage faux fur stole, that has been featured in several posts. I think it’s such a simple way to instantly dress up an outfit and add a touch of class. A faux fur stole can be wrapped like a scarf and combined with a sweater or peacoat for a dab of drama, draped over one shoulder and tucked into your belt, or even clipped to your purse to add a little furry accessory. You can even use it to replace a bolero for formal occasions, either draped around your bare shoulders, or clipped in the middle with a rhinestone brooch.
