Kick off to fall aka layering season

The falling temperatures mark the official introduction of my favorite time of year – fall a.k.a. layering season. While Katherine lives for everything summer, particularly her summer wardrobe, fall fashion has always been my thing. Between the crisp temperatures that make it the perfect time to layer and the overall busyness of the industry (fashion weeks anyone?) it’s a great time to get your healthy dose of #style.

To kick off fall here at ourMode, I had the chance to work with photographer Jonathan Menga on a special creative project. I’m not exaggerating when I say that this talented gent takes photography and editing to the next level. Though his work speaks for itself, Jonathan is meticulous, professional, yet very chill on set. What’s incredible about this shoot is that these background aren’t fake, but actual locations around Ottawa! Shot entirely a green screen in studio, he would give instructions to lean or push off the building that would eventually be there (wizardry right?!).

So what else is there to this shoot other than me playing Godzilla? Well, myself and with the help of Katherine, did the styling! Tasked with coming up with fall-ish outfits and sourcing my own closet, I wanted to achieve a very sartorial look for this shoot. Fall is all mostly about darker, moodier colors and heavier fabrics like tweed and corduroy. While layering can be somewhat daunting, it really is about trial and error – almost like playing around you find that something that works. Going back to our last <post>, it’s crazy sometimes what you can put together using the clothes you already own if you allow yourself to view them differently. Neither of these two outfits had I ever worn born before, and most of the pieces I’ve owned them for years. In the end, Katherine and I managed to put together two fresh fall looks that were really reminiscent of my personal style – urban, but with a gentleman quality.

As much as we enjoy styling each other, we also have a lot of fun working with other people. We’re so excited to announce that we’re starting to offer styling services! Whether its creating an outfit for a special event, or if your wardrobe is in need of a makeover, we’re there to help. We’ll be posting more details about what we’re offering soon!
