how to: the perfect sock bun

The sock bun – what every girl needs to know! This hairstyle is perfect for those days when you don’t have time to wash or do your hair, or if you’re opting for a classy up-do. Whatever it is, it’ll give you an elegant and fresh look… in under 5 minutes!

I’ve seen a few variations on how to do a sock bun, but after some experimentation, I found that this way works best. Oh and for an extra clean look, slick back your hair with some mousse and bobby pin any flyaways after you’ve done your sock bun.

I’m definitely going to try using one of the donuts! I haven’t had any issues with the sock bun, but I’d love to see if it turns out differently with the actual product 🙂

I love the sock bun on you! It’s such an easy way to add polish to your do/outfit. Have you noticed there are times that your hair just doesn’t want to do the bun though? I used to be able to do it so well and in a matter of seconds, but I feel like I can’t get it right anymore. I always end up with spaces and it not being as tight as before. Tips?

Hey Marta! Sometimes I have the same problem – usually the sock bun is seamless, but other times it just doesn’t want to cooperate (CJ can testify to how frustrated I get, especially since it’s supposed to be a quick hairstyle!) What I found works for me is to make sure that your hair is really evenly brushed through, and your hair is a even thickness. This’ll help “spread” your hair around the donut evenly and cleanly. Hope this helps!!

Thanks lovely! I had this trouble at first, as I have really long layered hair. Try buying a detangling spray, and spritz your hair (not too damp, but enough to keep loose strands together) and brush through it thoroughly before rolling it into the donut. This’ll help keep your layers together when rolling. Also, I had shorter layers at the front of my face, so when I’m done making the bun, I slick back my hair with mousse and bobby pin any short strands to the side of my head.

I have ridiculous hair envy looking at your smooth mane haha, but a top knot of any sort is definitely my way of looking like a tried when I don’t have time to try. I love how sleek yours look; I need to work on my sock bun technique!

Top knots are seriously a girl’s greatest secret (well not anymore)! Haha I feel that us ladies are always wanting something different about our hair. The number of times I’ve permed mine to get that big thick curly look is silly!

Have something to say?
